The second season of the "Stool 60 minä perhonen series," featuring the "dop" fabric developed by fashion and textile brand minä perhonen, debuts on June 15th.

The "Stool 60," developed by Alvar Aalto, one of the most influential 20th-century architects, is still produced at the Artek factory in Finland using the same techniques as when it was first produced more than 80 years ago. Alvar Aalto was a modernist who sought to popularize superior design that combined functionality and practicality, rather than designing for a special someone, while also valuing diversity and freedom in furniture design. The "Stool 60," made with high-quality Finnish wood and inheriting the techniques and philosophy of Alvar Aalto, is beloved around the world, transcending borders and cultures.
The "Stool 60 minä perhonen series" uses the textile "dop," which changes over time as the surface wears and the color of the underside reveals a new look over the years, allowing for enjoyable changes over time. The series continues with changing themes and colors. Following "Stool 60 minä perhonen series 1," which was based on the concept of "accidental harmony," "Stool 60 minä perhonen series 2" is based on the concept of "breathing life." Minagawa Akira, designer of minä perhonen, said of the combination of seat fabric and leg colors, "In our daily lives, the arrangement of important objects shapes our behavior, harmonizes our mind, and gives us energy. For this Stool 60 minä perhonen series 2, I chose colors that bring harmony to our lives, like the casual flowers that bloom on the road."
The friendship between Artek and minä perhonen dates back to an Artek exhibition in 2008. Minagawa Akira designed Alvar Aalto's "Stool 60" as a unique piece for the Artek exhibition, and also exhibited a stool upholstered in fabric from the minä perhonen archives at the Yokohama Triennale in the same year. In 2016, he created a poster commemorating the 70th anniversary of Ilmari Tapiovaara's Domus Chair, and Mina Perhonen opened pop-up stores at Artek stores in Helsinki and Berlin. The friendship between the two brands continues uninterrupted. In Finland, design is not seen as a luxury reserved for a select few, but as a part of everyday life. Alvar Aalto's furniture designs also combine functionality, practicality, and simple beauty, and were created to improve the lives of everyone. The "Stool 60 minä perhonen series" will be available from June 15th at Artek stores, select Mina Perhonen stores, and the online shop. It will bring "true richness" to Japan and further enhance the beauty of our daily lives.
