Roppongi Art Night 2018 to be held: Works by artists Teppei Kaneuji, Kengo Kito, and Muneteru Ujino take over Roppongi!

Event Date:2018.05.26-05.27
Mar 12, 2018
Roppongi Art Night 2018, an all-night art festival, will be held in the Roppongi district from 10:00 on May 26th to 18:00 on May 27th. Leading Japanese contemporary artists Teppei Kaneuji, Kengo Kito, and Muneteru Ujino will liven up Roppongi.

Roppongi Art Night is a one-night-only art feast that aims to propose a new lifestyle of enjoying art in everyday life and to create a pioneering model for urban development in the metropolis of Tokyo. Set in Roppongi, home to a diverse collection of commercial and cultural facilities, a diverse range of contemporary art, design, music, video, and performance works will be scattered throughout the district, creating an extraordinary, one-night-only experience. Launched in March 2009 as Tokyo's leading art festival, it continues to grow year by year.

This year's theme is "The City Dreams of Art." Amid the glow of neon and headlights, like a city that never sleeps, installations and performances will appear throughout the city. Centerpieces include a singing tower, a moving sculpture, and a colorful fabric waterfall. The diverse art forms tell stories that surprise and inspire.

Roppongi Hills will be decorated by Teppei Kaneuji, who expands on the technique of collage to express himself in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation, performance, and theater. At the National Art Center, Tokyo, Kengo Kito uses everyday objects, such as hula hoops, string, and mirrors, to create installations, two-dimensional works, three-dimensional works, and video works in a variety of media. Tokyo Midtown will be overseen by Muneteru Ujino, whose "The Rotators" project combines sound, sculpture, and performance to redefine modern culture by reconstructing everyday objects and technology, including musical instruments, furniture, home appliances, cars, and used records, based on his "research into the material world" in the mass consumption society of the late 20th century.

Attention is focused on what kind of works these three leaders of Japan's contemporary art world will present in Roppongi. Further event programs will be announced in the future.
