French photographer François Halard, known for photographing the studios of renowned artists, is considered one of the world's most acclaimed architectural photographers. To commemorate the publication of "Saul Leiter," a photo book featuring his photographs of the studio of New York painter and photographer Saul Leiter, VACANT in Harajuku will be holding a special screening of the documentary film "Photographer Saul Leiter: 13 Things I Learned from a Slow Life."
Saul Leiter was a pioneer of color photography, capturing New York City with rich, painterly expression since the 1940s, and his work has also appeared on the covers of famous fashion magazines such as Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. This documentary explores the life of Saul Leiter, who deliberately distanced himself from fame, saying, "The important thing in life is not what you acquire, but what you give up." It explores why his photographs resonate so deeply with us, and what his life has to say. The special screening will consist of two sessions: a matinee screening only and an evening screening and talk event. The talk event will feature Motoyuki Shibata, an American literature scholar and translator who provided the film's Japanese subtitles. The film itself is scheduled for 75 minutes, and the talk is scheduled for approximately 60 minutes.
In conjunction with the publication of the photo book "Saul Leiter," the "Saul Leiter by François Halard" exhibition will be held at POST in Ebisu from October 12th to 29th.
