Until his death in 2007 at the age of 84, Marcel Marceau influenced actors, musicians, and dancers around the world. It's well-known that Michael Jackson's "moonwalk" was inspired by his performance. This film reveals the previously untold story of Marcel's involvement in the Resistance during World War II, when he fought against the French government's Nazi alliance. Jesse Eisenberg, nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his role in "The Social Network," plays Marcel. Drawing on his Jewish upbringing and the fact that his mother was a professional clown, he vividly portrays the man's transformation into a deeply human and charming character.

1938, France. Dreaming of a life as an artist, Marcel works at a butcher's shop by day and performs pantomime in cabarets at night. As World War II intensifies, he, along with his brother Alain, cousin Georges, and his lover Emma, takes care of 123 Jewish children whose parents have been killed by the Nazis. Marcel's pantomime brings smiles back to the faces of the children, who are filled with sadness and tension, and he forms a strong bond with them. However, the Nazis' influence grows day by day, and in 1942, German troops finally occupy all of France. Marcel decides to evacuate the children to safety in Switzerland, crossing the rugged and dangerous Alps.
