"The Auschwitz Report," Slovakia's entry for this year's Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, will be released in theaters nationwide, including Shinjuku Musashinokan, from July 30th.

This film, based on the true story of how the lives of 120,000 Jews were saved thanks to the reporting of two young Slovak Jews who escaped from the Auschwitz concentration camp, was directed by Slovakian director Peter Bebujak and was selected as Slovakia's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. The two Slovaks who escape are played by Noel Zuczor (Ophelia) and newcomer Peter Ondrejčka, while John Hannah (The Mummy series) gives a strong performance as the Red Cross worker who rescues them.

April 1944, Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Alfred and Walter, two Slovaks who work as recorders of the bodies, decide to escape in order to report to the outside world the harsh conditions in the camp where many people are killed every day. As the sun begins to set, Alfred, with the help of his fellow residents in Building 9, and Walter, another recorder, hide under stacks of lumber and wait for an opportunity to escape.

That night, when it was discovered that two prisoner recorders were missing during prisoner roll call, Commandant Schwarzhuber set off a flare and ordered his men to search for them. The prisoners in Block 9, the same building as the escapees, were made to stand outside until the two recorders were found, and the roll call leader was beaten relentlessly with a wooden club.
