"Fantastic Fungi," a film that explores the fascinating world of mushrooms, will be released nationwide from September 24th at Shinjuku Cinema Qualite, Human Trust Cinema Shibuya, and other theaters.



Louis Schwartzberg, a filmmaker known as a pioneer of time-lapse footage and who has worked on documentaries for National Geographic and Disney Nature, will be releasing "Fantastic Fungi," a documentary film of wonder and hope that explores the hidden power of mushrooms and fungi. Narrated by Academy Award-winning actress and mushroom enthusiast Brie Larson, the film features a variety of experts, including mycologist Paul Stamets, journalist Michael Pollan (who also appeared in "Food, Inc."), and popular food writer Eugenia Vaughn, who reveal previously unknown fungal solutions to medical, therapeutic, and environmental problems. Mushrooms and fungi are not only used as food, but are also useful for regenerating and sustaining various forms of life, treating Alzheimer's and cancer, and even purifying environmental pollution. There is great anticipation for their potential application to various problems on Earth. This film showcases the potential of mushrooms and fungi, which are said to have hallucinogenic effects but also the power to save human lives.
