DEAN & DELUCA Presents “OSECHI 2026” — A New Year’s Celebration Where Japanese Tradition Meets Modern Elegance

2025.09.12
In Japan, the New Year begins with a feast known as osechi ryori, an assortment of symbolic dishes carefully arranged in a tiered lacquer box (jubako). Each delicacy carries meaning: black beans for health, herring roe for prosperity, and datemaki omelet for knowledge. Traditionally rooted in centuries of custom, osechi represents a wish for happiness and abundance in the coming year.

For 2026, DEAN & DELUCA presents its own take on this time-honored ritual with “OSECHI 2026”, a three-tiered jubako that bridges Japanese heritage and contemporary dining aesthetics.

The first tier highlights the essence of osechi classics—sweet simmered black soybeans, kazunoko (herring roe), and beautifully arranged seafood delicacies—reinterpreted with subtle Western touches.

The second tier introduces refined appetizers and seafood prepared with modern flair, such as oysters marinated with herbs, lobster gratin layered with béchamel, and velvety pâtés accented with caviar.

The third tier elevates the celebratory spirit with indulgent dishes: wagyu steak perfumed with truffle, delicate terrines, and European-style hors d’oeuvres, creating a sense of abundance and sophistication befitting the holiday.

In addition to its culinary artistry, DEAN & DELUCA underscores sustainability with the reusable jubako. Once the feast is enjoyed, the lacquer boxes can serve as timeless tableware—an elegant reminder of both tradition and ecological consciousness.
